Justin Colón came to speak to all of our Thomas students! He is the author of "The Quacken" which is nominated for our state award for 2026-2027. We had so much fun learning about being an author and reading his hilarious book!
Sporting Event Reminders (2026-2027):
Student Seating: Elementary students must sit with the adult who brings them. Middle School and High School students must sit in the designated supervised sections, unless they sit with their parents. (Middle school on the North Home Section, High school on the South Home Section). Only Gretna students should sit in the designated student sections.
No Outside Food or Drink: To ensure the cleanliness and safety of our facilities, we ask that you refrain from bringing outside food or beverages to any sporting event. Concessions will be available on-site, and your purchases help support our school organizations.
No Noisemakers: Per NSAA policy, noisemakers of any kind (horns, whistles, cowbells, etc.) are not permitted at our events.
No Sports Equipment: For the safety of all attendees, please do not bring sports equipment, such as footballs or soccer balls, into the venue.
School Expectations Apply: Remember that school events are an extension of the school day. All school rules and expectations regarding behavior and dress code apply during these events.
Stay Off Competition Fields: Please remain off all competition fields, even those not in use, to ensure the safety and respect for all athletes and staff.
No Pets: For the comfort and safety of all attendees, pets are not allowed at any school sporting events.

Thomas Elementary 5th graders learned all about Earth's rotation and how it affects their shadows.
Mrs. Chisler's kindergarten class had a busy and fun week! Mr. Lenny reminded them of "the power of YET" and the class filled up their kindness/compliments jar to earn a popsicle party!

Mrs. Boyd, 1st Grade teacher at Thomas Elementary was named one of Nissan of Omaha's teacher's of the year and was presented with her award today. We are so proud of Mrs. Boyd and all that she does for our students each day. Nissan of Omaha couldn't have picked a better teacher!

Expectation Stations - Friday, Aug. 21st
The Thomas Elementary 5th graders, the leaders of our school, held 'Expectation Stations' this past Friday. They taught all of our KG-4th grade students how to 'Give Kindness', 'Practice Accountability', and 'Stay Safe' around our school. Great work 5th grade and thanks to our 5th grade team for preparing them for a great day!
We have a wonderful award nominated author coming to talk to us on Sept. 9th. Justin Colón is the author of Quacken and other hilarious books. Last week students were sent home with an opportunity to order an autographed hardcover book from Justin. These order forms are due tomorrow, Aug. 20th. We can't wait to hear all about writing books and hear ideas for his next book!

A Warm Welcome to Our New Staff
We’re excited to welcome our newest members of the Gretna Public Schools family!
Journey Church recently hosted a breakfast for our new staff members, giving them a chance to connect, enjoy a meal, and begin getting to know one another as they start their journey with Gretna Public Schools.
Starting a new job comes with plenty of excitement and a few nerves, so having our community come alongside our new staff to make them feel welcome means a lot.
We are grateful to Journey Church for their generosity, support, and hospitality. Thank you for helping us welcome our newest Gretna Greats and for spreading the joy!
